Althorp House

Althorp House

One of the most famous stately homes in Northamptonshire is Althorp House. Home to the current Earl Spencer, brother, of the late Princess Diana, Althorp is steeped in tradition and splendour stretching back over 500 years.

Open to the public, the house exhibits the history of the Spencer family, who have been resident here for almost five centuries. The expansive gardens are known amongst gardeners to have been responsible for introducing the sweet pea flower to the United Kingdom. Enjoy pleasant strolls through the ornate gardens and perhaps take the opportunity to reflect by the peaceful Round Oval Lake.

Althorp House is the final resting place of Diana, Princess of Wales, and as such has an award winning exhibition dedicated to Diana’s memory, her life, and her work. There are audiovisual displays in four of the rooms and the exhibits displayed include the famous bridal gown, childhood letters, school reports, and details of the Princess' work for charity.

Althorp House is a wonderful stately home, full of treasures just waiting to be explored, including beautiful interiors and one of Europe’s finest private collections of furniture, pictures and ceramics – a definite must see on any short break in Northamptonshire.

Althorp House is around 30 minutes from the Holiday Inn Corby-Kettering hotel.
